It’s been two months since I gave birth, and postpartum has been a rollercoaster. The learning curve is steep, and some days, I feel like I just can’t do it. My baby cries for hours when I’m at my most exhausted, and I’ve had intrusive thoughts I can’t even say out loud. Sleep deprivation, hormones, and breastfeeding hit harder than I ever imagined.
But in the chaos, I realized something—I needed time for myself, every day, not just once in a while. So I made a list of things that bring me joy and built a morning routine. Just like my baby needs care, so do I. And it’s helping. I can’t pour from an empty pitcher, and this is how I fill mine.

1. 10-Minute exercise (after feeding baby and baby is in crib)

Liam is my alarm clock these days, waking me up for his first feed of the day. Once he’s settled, I roll out of bed and head straight to exercise. I tell myself that no matter how little I do, I’ll move my body every morning. Even on the days I don’t feel like it, it always guarantees that I’ll feel better. My workout space is right outside my bedroom— so it’s the first thing I see when I walk out. During this time, my husband was watching Liam.
2. Get ready with a simplified skincare & makeup routine

Mornings are simple for me—I always shower at night, so I just brush my teeth, do my skincare, and if I’m in the mood, a little makeup. These days, that means filling in my brows, curling my lashes, and dabbing on a multistick for some color. Quick, effortless, and makes me feel human.
3. Cook a simple but nourishing breakfast (I like to keep my baby in stroller next to me)

Between my husband and I, I love cooking, so even when I keep it simple, it’s still something I enjoy eating. But before I can sit down and eat, Liam’s ready for another feed. I feed him on demand, so breakfast happens on the couch, where I always breastfeed him during the day.
4. Read a motivational book (while baby takes his first nap of the day)

Liam fell asleep after eating, so I let him nap on my lap while I check my phone… which quickly turned into doom scrolling. I try to catch myself before going too deep. So now I move on to my next routine—reading.
Liam woke up just in time, so I read out loud to him. He doesn’t understand a word, but it helps with his language development and, honestly, it’s just a sweet moment to share together.
5. 10-Minute clean up (while baby is in the crib, looking at a baby mobile)

Next up, I put him in the crib (fingers crossed he stays there for a bit) and do a quick cleanup—like putting away dishes, tossing laundry in the washer, and picking up last night’s load to fold later.
6. Journal mindfully with the Glow Getter Planner

Now, the part of my routine that truly shapes my day and grounds me—journaling. Writing helps me process, reflect, and show up better for the day ahead.

7. Take a walk under the sun

And finally, Liam and I head outside for a walk. The fresh air, sunshine, and exercise are good for both of us—plus, he looooves being outside. He is truly my husband’s son.
That’s my morning routine—slow, real, and exactly what I need to take care of myself while taking care of him. Some days, I wake up before Liam and get a few quiet moments to myself. Other days, I skip a few steps in the routine and that’s okay too. As long as I do something from this routine, it still helps me show up for the day and for him.
Thank you so much for watching! I hope this gave you a little insight into how a few intentional moments in the morning can make a difference—whether you have a newborn or not.
