So I’ve been creating content for 6 years now aaaand it’s been a journey. Creating content, especially videos, had always been something I loved doing since YouTube came out. But only in the last few years did I finally start publishing videos. And what really made a huge difference in motivating me to continue making videos was making money from it. And while obviously everything shouldn’t always be about money- it’s really empowering to get paid to talk about what you love. Basically, turning a passion into a paycheck. Which is something I also want my subscribers to experience too!

So you might know me as the Traveling Petite Girl blogger and you also might know me as the Traveling Petite Girl vlogger or video creator. So in today’s video, I’ll share my experience as a vlogger and lift the hood on how videos creators make money. I hope that with what I share, it’ll sparks ideas so you can money as a vlogger too.

Before we get into the nitty gritty, I want to thank Uscreen for sponsoring today’s video. So you know how Netflix is a subscription-based video platform where you get to watch movies & TV shows? Well, imagine Netflix but instead of movies & TV shows, it’s your videos, your content and you on the homepage. That’s what Uscreen can help you build. So Uscreen is an all-in-one video platform that helps content creators sell their videos online through building their own membership websites with a Netflix-like look & experience. Uscreen customers vary from influencers, to vloggers, to hobby enthusiasts, and anyone who wants to monetize their content.

Set up your video membership site using Uscreen!

Speaking of memberships, let’s start with the first method:

1. Sell your videos as a subscription / membership

So imagine having your free content on YouTube, and this content can be beginner tutorials of whatever you’re teaching. Then for any content more intermediate, advanced, or just anything you want to show more detail on, you can provide as a membership or subscription.

And if you think about it, you can also upload some of your existing content from YouTube to a platform that supports membership plans like Uscreen. That way you can sell your content as a reoccuring subscription that members only have access too. I would recommend coming up with content that provides a lot of value to your members that they can’t get anywhere else. You can start off with the free content you already have on YouTube and work your way from there by providing premium, advance-level guides, or monthly masterclasses.

For example you love to travel, you can share your travel guides as free content on YouTube and share your secret travel tips as a membership with a monthly or yearly fee. Your subscription-based content can dive much deeper into your travels for your viewers who want to know more. You can get more in-depth about your tricks on how to book cheap flights, how to travel on a budget, how to plan your trips. You can show your behind-the-scenes, follow-me around vlogs, and anything that will provide more value than your free content.

What’s great about selling your content as a membership is that it’s not only about the value your providing, it’s also about your members too because it’s a great way to build your community. And if you build your membership website with Uscreen and grow your audience through them, you still own your audience. So if you’re on platforms like YouTube, YouTube owns your audience. If you’re on Instagram, Instagram owns your audience. Meaning if one day, YouTube and Instagram suddenly fell off the face of the earth for whatever reason, kind of like the Vine app, your audience is gone. The key point is you should own your audience, whether it’s their emails, billing, or any sort of data you need in order to run & protect your business. Because essentially, what you are doing is running a business.

And another great part about subscription-based content is that it makes it easier for someone in your community to try out and discover your new content. They’ll get immediate access to your content as you create them so it’s really convenient for them. And as a video creator, you can accurately predict how much money you’re going to earn, as opposed to selling a one-time offer that’s marked at a higher price which causes fluctuations and unpredictable revenue. I definitely have first-hand experience with that. And there’s a reason a big reason why many businesses would rather choose a subscription-based model and that’s one of it.

If you’re considering selling your videos as a membership, Uscreen you can help you build your membership website. They have plenty of sleek pre-built templates that can be customized to fit your brand. You can ever create your own branded app that your subscribers can access easily from their phones. And with Uscreen, they don’t own your audience, you do.

2. Sell an online course

You can also sell your content as a membership but market it as an online course.

So let’s say you’re already posting quality tutorials on how to manage your finances. You can re-package your content and rearrange it in such a way that it flows like a step-by-step course. You can create more videos to fill in the gaps, and get even more detailed. And now you’ve got an online course that you can sell as a membership. And the nice thing about selling your memberships through Uscreen is that not only do you get to create beautiful landing pages, they can also process payments for you. And they can store your videos for you too. So it creates a seamless transition for your YouTube viewers to become a customer on your website and for you, as the user, to use their platform. And there are some really great landing pages that was created through Uscreen that you can grab plenty of inspiration from.

3. Live stream

And for the video creator who’s not quite a fan of video editing or is more of an impromptu performer of sorts, livestreaming might be for you. And there are actually several ways you can monetize your livestreams. One way is for you to ask for donations & tips, which is a very common within the livestreaming community. You can work with a brand to sponsor your livestream. You can host a live sale where you talk about your favorite products and link the affiliate links to each product below. You can also livestream as part of your membership website. What I like about Uscreen is that they allow you to presell your live streams and set it up as an event. I think this option would be great if you have a specific occasion you want to stream live like an interview a special guest or a webinar.

Conclusion

So those are 3 ways vloggers can make money and I think these are great ways for you to monetize your content about something you already love talking about. So I don’t have a membership website but after creating this video, it has really opened my mind to new possibilties and I also hope it opened your mind up too.
